When I first started working with web design and site maintenance everything was pretty much plain HTML with a few perl scripts to drive counters and form processors. All one really needed to work was a good text editor. Thats all changed with Web 2.0 and style driven site design.

I work with Cascading Style Sheets at least a few times a week, and generally speaking, I do fine. But every now and then I run into a situation where I need an attribute name that doesn’t come to mind easily. Under normal circumstances, I do one of two things. I either open Kompozer and use the style editor to figure out what I need, or I find a page where the designer did what I want to do and use CSSMate, a great Firefox Add-on, to find out how they did it.

This morning when making my normal rounds I came across an interesting widget in a post on The Big Picture blog. The widget he featured wasn’t something I need, but it was so nicely done I decided to see what else that company had to offer. Thats where I found, amongst the Free Programs offered, the CSS Gizmo. This tool allows you to quickly style an object on the fly. It’s also handy for looking up those attibutes that we don’t use very often.

I know I will be using it often so I went ahead and embedded it in a page for easy access. You can use it at http://blog.techfun.org/css-gizmo or embed it somewhere on your own blog. You can get the code at Poodwaddle in the Free Downloads section under "More".
