Heather:  You can use them all up and down your directory structure but they are cumulative so if you put one under another, BOTH will apply.  

In the example there at the /wp-content/ level, you could ALLOW browsing of your uploads folder by putting an .htaccess file with:

in the /wp-content/uploads/ folder and still protect your themes and plugins folders while allowing uploads to be browsable.</description>

I&#039;ve always been mystified by and a little bit afraid of the .htaccess voodoo. I was sure I&#039;d mess something up if I tried anything. Didn&#039;t know I could put one in a subdirectory. Good job!
