Microsoft offers $250,000 Reward for Conficker Author

This is mostly from a Microsoft press release, so its more forgiving of Microsoft’s role in designing operating systems that so often become zombies that can be used by spammers or others with malicious intent to make the Internet a less pleasant place for the rest of us. When you consider the damage done by Conficker and earlier threats like NIMDA and CodeRed, $250,000 seems rather low if they really want to use this current threat to set an example to future virus designers.

Sadly, Television Remains a Primary Source of Economic News

While TV news coverage is probably adequate when covering things like ARod’s drug use, or Britney Spears child custody problems, it is extremely ill suited to handling complex issues like the legislature or the economy. It is easy for a TV news cast to tell you how many jobs General Motors has eliminated but its not as easy to educate the viewer about the interplay between GM shareholders, management, lenders, and labor unions that went into the decision to cut jobs.

Portland Oregon Opens America’s First ‘Twisitor Center’

Portland Oregon has become the first U.S. city to launch an official “Twisitor Center.” This cyber-style cousin to the more traditional walk-in visitor information center relies on Twitter technology to connect travelers with those who can answer their questions and help plan their trips.
