I'm not sure if I should be flattered or not?!? I actually consider myself an optimist in all sorts of ways... but also pragmatic.

I tend to harp on sound-bite society, and surface level knowledge, because I grew up in the '80s and '90s WITHOUT a TV. An oxymoron. Everything I read or listened to was chewed slowly... i guess one positive aspect of growing up in a household that was so fundamentalist that they didn't allow TV.

Nevertheless, i agree... Yes! there are people who take the distribution of ideas quite Seriously and DON'T buy into soundbite society and I feel honored to know many people, left AND right AND neither, who take getting to know candidates and positions and unsexy bills very seriously. And some of them even make unsexy bills sexy! I commend you for providing links to further the process!!!!!

My question... how do you get those who don't care to care? I want to see people move below the surface too. Still not sure how it's done, but i too have some ideas.

May I temper your term of "cynicism"... to pragmatism? One can be a pragmatic optimist... which, imo, is different than cynicism. If we don't face the facts that a huge majority???/number of people barely give a fig newton, and never intend to... but Maybe vote anyway... we'd have nothing to worry about. Ignorance is bliss. But from someone who has spent a life time of slowcooked ideas... it is Very Obvious when I step into fastlane reality, that a lot of people are barely surviving on fastfood heartstoppers.

capeesh?
btw, i'll take it as a compliment. I'm optimistic like that.
off to the polls
