I’m disgusted.
You can see why here.
But to summarize:
Out of 9045 web site responses (as of now)
The majority of respondents – 56%, when asked “If it were up to you, which military action would you prefer to take in the war on Iraq?” answered “More aggressive action that would increase the risk of Iraqi civilian casualties but lead to a shorter war.” as opposed to 31% who said “More safeguards that would lower the risk of Iraqi civilian casualties but could lead to a longer war.” (In the same question in a Newsweek poll only 40% favored increased risk to the Iraqi civilians.)
I thought this was supposed to be about regime change. The damn war is called Operation Iraqi Freedom. Doesn’t that mean the coalition forces are on the side of the civilians? Are Americans really as blood thirsty as the polls seem to indicate?
I’ll admit I don’t hang around with many mainstream Americans. My life is basically faggots, pagans, and geeks – sometimes all in one person. So my exposure to what the average protestant accountant in Cleveland thinks is really nil. I don’t know if its a national revenge thing going on in which we are out to punish the Iraqi people because they happen to be of the same basic color and general religion as the Saudi hijackers who flew planes into the twin towers and the Pentagon or what. If a German Catholic attacks me am I justified in taking revenge on a Lithuanian Calvinist?
I did hear on NPR that a recent poll (not sure who did it – sorry) indicated that almost half of the respondents believed that most of the terrorists who attacked on September 11th were Iraqi citizens.
I really grow concerned on multiple levels when I get spam in my e-mail box selling t-shirts like the one below:
